Have You Got a GP Referral?
If your GP has referred you for surgery, you may already be on your way to being treated with us, or you can choose us right now using your NHS Right to Choose. Either way, we're here to make the process as straightforward as possible. Outstanding care, in a local community setting, at no cost to you.
How does an NHS referral work?
-
Step 1 – Your GP refers you
Your GP will submit a referral on your behalf through the NHS e-Referral Service (also known as NHS referral system'). At this point, you have the right to choose where you are treated.
-
Step 2 – Choose Independent Health Group
You can request Independent Health Group by name. Our clinics are based in local community settings, not busy hospitals, so you get faster access and a calmer experience, without any extra cost to you.
-
Step 3 - We contact you to book
Once your referral reaches us, our Patient Referral Centre will be in touch to arrange your appointment at a clinic convenient to you.
-
Step 4 - Consultation and treatment
Depending on your procedure, you may have a consultation first or proceed straight to treatment. Your clinical team will guide you through every step.
-
Step 5 - Go home the same day
All of our procedures are performed as day cases. No overnight stays, no hospital wards.
Did you know you can choose us?
Under the NHS Right to Choose, you are entitled to select which provider carries out your treatment — and it doesn't cost you anything extra. If your GP hasn't already referred you to us, simply ask them to. You deserve a say in where and how you're treated.
NHS treatments available with us
We offer six NHS-funded surgical procedures across our clinic network. All are performed under local anaesthetic where possible, as day cases, by experienced specialist surgeons.
Hernia Surgery
We treat a range of hernia types using a local anaesthetic-first approach, helping you avoid long hospital waits and get back to normal life quickly.

Find your nearest clinic
From our roots in the South West, Independent Health Group has grown to operate clinics across England, from Wiltshire and Gloucestershire to Leicestershire and beyond. We chose community settings over hospitals because we believe outstanding surgical care should be convenient, accessible, and close to where you live.
What our patients say
We gather regular feedback from our patients, to ensure that we're consistently delivering first class care. We're proud to say that over 99% of all patients who completed our feedback survey say they would recommend us to their family and friends.

Why we choose local anaesthetic first
Unlike most surgical providers who default to general anaesthesia, Independent Health Group specialises in local anaesthetic surgery. This isn’t a compromise, it’s a better approach for the right patients.
Safer
Local anaesthetic significantly reduces the risks associated with general anaesthesia. No grogginess, and fewer complications. Your safety is always our priority.
Faster
Without general anaesthesia, there's no lengthy recovery period. Most patients are home within hours of their procedure and back to normal activities much sooner.
Better value
Our streamlined, efficient process means we can offer competitive pricing for private patients and shorter waiting times for NHS patients. Quality care shouldn't cost more.
Patient safety always comes first. If you’re not suitable for local anaesthetic surgery following your assessment, we’ll ensure you’re supported to access the right care through our trusted partner providers.
