Private hernia surgery by IHG

Expert hernia care, without the wait.

If you've noticed a lump, persistent discomfort, or pain when lifting or straining, you may be wondering whether you have a hernia, and what to do next. At Independent Health Group, we make it straightforward to find out, get the right diagnosis, and access treatment quickly if it's needed.

We are the UK's largest single provider of hernia repairs performed under local anaesthetic, having completed over 11,000 hernia repairs to date. Our community-based clinics offer a calmer, more convenient alternative to busy hospital environments, with outstanding outcomes and a 99% patient satisfaction rate.

Not every lump or pain is a hernia. That's why our process begins with a proper clinical assessment before any treatment is considered.

Important information

Our approach: triage first, treatment when needed.

We don't believe in unnecessary surgery. Before any procedure is discussed, you'll be seen by one of our specialist consultants who will assess your symptoms, confirm whether a hernia is present, and advise on whether intervention is required.

If surgery is needed and your case is suitable for local anaesthetic repair, you'll be offered a procedure at one of our clinic locations — typically within 4–6 weeks of your initial consultation.

For more complex cases that require general anaesthetic, we work with trusted specialist partners and will guide you through the most appropriate option.

Why we choose local anaesthetic first

Unlike most surgical providers who default to general anaesthesia, Independent Health Group specialises in local anaesthetic surgery. This isn’t a compromise, it’s a better approach for the right patients.

Safer

Local anaesthetic significantly reduces the risks associated with general anaesthesia. No grogginess, and fewer complications. Your safety is always our priority.

Faster

Without general anaesthesia, there's no lengthy recovery period. Most patients are home within hours of their procedure and back to normal activities much sooner.

Better value

Our streamlined, efficient process means we can offer competitive pricing for private patients and shorter waiting times for NHS patients. Quality care shouldn't cost more.

Patient safety always comes first. If you’re not suitable for local anaesthetic surgery following your assessment, we’ll ensure you’re supported to access the right care through our trusted partner providers.
